Description

"An anthromorphic otter hunting for clams.  Being human like they would be higher functioning.. Tribal like.. Using crude but  resourceful tools to hunt.  They wear wraps around their waist. Lots of jewelry all made from found stones and such."

Found a close up pic of a person eating a clam and then fudged the rest of the pose together from that.  It's also supposed to be a shucking knife she's holding, but they're not very big in the first place, so all I could do was try to make sure it was brighter than the surrounding form.

Very cool sketch. Whilst my liking of specific animals, such as otters, might tend to sway my opinion it is the style of drawing such a specific animal that appeals to me here. (Which in one way really doesn't make sense, as I don't have a particular liking of anatomical extrapolation. I don't know if it really works here, but it doesn't quite detract from the image either.)

Vision I give 4 stars for the great three-dimensional posing. The face I like in particular - it's really well fleshed-out yet very simple.

Originality gets 4 stars as it's something I've seen somewhat frequently as a formerly fanatical fan of Redwall, yet it's entirely distinguishable from a Redwall theme. Many otters, much tribal, but even if this actually is some Redwall emulation it's not an approach I've seen in the fandom.

Technique I give 4 stars as well. Although I love the style generally, the large legs feel like a bit of a cop-out. Perhaps it's just due to a liking of disproportional limbs or an anthropomorphic flair, but I personally don't know how to interpret it. The ears are also further back on the head than normal, but in any case the overall fluidity and finesse of the image override those scruples, even if they prevent a full 5 stars from my perspective.

Impact I give 4 1/2 stars due to all combined elements. Some inconsistencies are at play, especially with the random gray area in the back, but it is too well-composed and shaded not to enjoy. The picture however is not about the background but entirely centered on the character, and the character is very well-crafted. Simple but effective. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/n…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="334" title="Nod"/>
